Re-Union explores the public/private dichotomy of residential high rise on coastal sites, whilst also providing flexible market space across the lower two levels. The scheme aims to mitigate the ultra public and the ultra private through slowly degrading the privacy of the occupant from their most private moment (using the bathroom) to their most public (swimming in bathers on the beach).
The scheme allows for full beach views for all apartments and views back onto the Adelaide hills for the eastern facade, alongside providing the option of complete privacy. The facade treatment acts in two stages, with the first layer providing complete transparency (Glass exterior panelling) and the second layer consisting of an occupant controlled louvre system. This dual facade acts as an analogy for the sites preoccupation with public/private relations.
