The act of landscape is not curating nature but letting a region be defined by itself.
The project is derived from initial exploratory, spatial experiences performed with the intent of defining the inherent qualities of a landscape. These personal explorations were analysed and this lead me to believe that landscape is not defined by its naturalness, but is defined by itself over time via the subsumption of its boundaries, and of its systems.
To allow the site to become a true landscape, the designer must allow for a balance of contingency and autonomy in both the design and its ageing. The designer must acknowledge their agency, and allow for randomness to integrate into the process. The designer must attempt to create not just an object but a system that can evolve over time and dictate itself, without disregarding the existing site conditions and qualities preexisting in the site.
